Theme Theater

The theme of a story is the one word used to describe the novel. We should all be familiar with the tale, A Christmas Carol.  How the ghost are after one thing in Scrooge, change. Thats the theme; Change. Scrooge's attitude affected the way he acted to the poor. He was a greedy, self-centered, person who had all the money in the world yet none of the happiness. It had gotten to the point where money was more important then others. He had to change and with that he undergoes a life changing adventure all in one Christmas night. He is visited by the ghost of Christmas future, present, and past where they show the errors of his ways. He sees himself for the first time and in the end he changes for the better. Change thats the theme and the message, learn it, love it, live it.

Character's Personalities

From our last stop Dee has taken the book, Pernelle has been captured and the twins and Nicholas Flamel are in hiding. The action continues... Dee is after the Final Summoning of the Book of Abraham so he keeps an eye on the twins and Nick. To do that he enlist the help of Morrigan. Morrigan prevents Pernelle from escaping and uses crows to attack our heroes. Flamel and the twins pick up Scathach, an alchemyst teacher, to aide in their journey as they escape the crows and drive towards the unknown.

"The Alchemyst" is so unique due to the character choices the author uses. He brings to life each character by showing their personality through their actions. He gives each character a personality that I find would be good for a friend to have. Especially Nicholas Flamel, he is calm under danger, nice and settle yet a lethal weapon. He seems like the perfect fit as a friend. I can imagine the journeys we can have with the aide of his powers and thats why we need friends, to have people beside you in the journeys you face.

The Clock Starts Ticking

The Alchemyst is still going on and keeping strong. From the last stop at page 19 the bookstore has been attacked and now the Sophie and Perry come to Nick and John's aide. The evil man's name has been revealed as Dee and he is after the book of Abramham which corresponds to Nicholas Flamels legend. However, John keeps the book at hand while Dee tears it from his hands and takes Perenelle as hostage. Still, John's struggle had not been in vain through his battle he managed to get the Final Summoning, with those pages unattached the book is useless. Now the battle hes started in order to retrieve the pages and save Pernelle and Nicholas's life which will soon fade without the book has just began and already time is running out. (Page 44)
Nicholas is trying to hide the pain of his lose yet after living an imortal life together there must be a deep attachment to Pernelle. Yet in a month's time they and their love could fade. The pain of losing something you love is undescribable, I've felt it. I lost my grandmother. We haven't spent an eternaty like Nick and Pernelle but it didn't take that long to love her. Love is described as a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person in dictionary.com, but it's more than that love is holding on to something and never wanting to let it go, its not just a feeling but a part of yourself. Loosing love is loosing yourself. I lost my grandmother and it I felt a pain unimaginable to any other. Nicholas is about to face that same fate.

Magic, Alchemy, Immortality and Rotten Eggs = The Alchemyst

The Alchemyst: Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel  centers around the world of two twins, one boy, John, the other is a girl, Sophie. From the first 19 pages it starts off fast. Dark figures attack the bookstore John works at and owned is by Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel. Nicholas Flamel somehow conjures up balls of pure energy like magic as a force to destroy the attackers. Books keep flying and get ripped apart and from the destruction time is given for an escape for both Nicholas and John. However, the destruction draws the attention of Perenelle and Sophie who come to their aide.

Nicholas Flamel in this story is based off a real person. The story of Nicholas Flamel is surrounded by legend. Each legend is even more shocking then the last. Nicholas was educated as a small boy so he had the ability to read and write and with this knowledge eventually became a writer and studied alchemy, back in his time the study of tranformation (how things come to be). According to legend Nicholas Flamel got his hands on the book written by Abraham the Jew so it had a direct link to God. Only a scholar had the ability to read the book but with his knowledge of reading and writing he eventually looked inside. Nicholas, his wife Perenelle , and an unknown stranger eventually decoded the words in the book and from it Nicholas and his wife were granted the ability of turning metal to gold and eventually learned the secret to immortality. This is all according to legend yet one thing stands true Nicholas Flamel was real but did he discover the secret to immortality? His empty gravestone might be your answer. Alternate Ending- The Gravity Keeper

The smiles shining through the faces of Owen and Alysha filled Simon with glee. The battle was over, they had won. Suddenly a light from above stopped their cheering. Soon figures appeared, each person had a look of complete seriousness. Except for one of them one of them, Ralfagon, the original Keeper of the Book that controlled the laws of physics. Ralfagon looked at the children, placed on his face a smile from ear to ear, he said in a quiet whisper "Congratulations. Thanks to the help of you and your friends, we were able to defeat Sirabeta. We now award you with the admittance into the Order." The faces of the children brightened, and from then on Simon, Owen, and Alysha has helped to form the universe in their own ways.

Characters Change. Book Read: Hidden Talents

The book Hidden Talents by David Lubar introduces very complex characters. There is one in particular nicknamed Trash. He has the ability to move items with his mind, a psychic power known as telekinesis. Trash in the book started out as a loner, always alone and never acknowledged. He couldn't control his power which practically made him unapproachable. However that all changes after his encounter with Martin Anderson, the main character of the book. Martin and his friends accept Trash after finding out that they all have psychic powers. He goes from being alone to having friends because of his differences, which after much training was under his control. Although each character faced a challenge in the book Trash solved his and changed the most in the process
